The route of the eastern border, over 1300 km
from the border with Russia, from the Vistula
River Bar to Połonina Bukowska in the Bieszczady
mountains, the most south-eastern edge of Poland,
marks the most precious places of the country
from the natural point of view.
They had been practically forgotten areas for
almost half a century following the war. The
border-line zone adjacent to the USSR had its
own laws, with which the development of tourism
had to be relatively limited. Such a state of
affairs was doubtlessly advantageous for the
local nature, whose natural rhythm could not be
disturbed by anything extraordinary.
Areas at the eastern border continue to be
poorly developed economically until the present
day. Although there have been founded numerous
new border crossing points there, the economic
importance of these areas continues to be
marginal in the scale of the whole country.
At present the areas of the eastern border-line
(also a border-line of the European Union) gain
an exceptional importance in the scale of Europe,
as they are areas of the biggest importance from
the point of view of the nature in our continent.
Thus the eco-tourism becomes a huge chance for
inhabitants of this part of Poland. You can find
below a photographic gallery of these areas.
